Shirley Ann Ables

February 17, 1936 - January 23, 2021

Shirley Ann Ables, age 84, of Eastland passed away on January 23, 2021 in Fort Worth, Texas. A visitation will be held Sunday, January 31st at Edwards Funeral Home Eastland from 6-8 PM. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 1, 2021 at the First United Methodist Church Eastland; interment will follow in the Eastland City Cemetery. Shirley was born February 17, 1936 in Albany, Texas to George “Dick” Branton and Oletha Imogene “Jean” Westerman. Her family moved to Cisco where she attended school. She married Gerald Wayne Ables on July 10, 1952, and had been married 45 years when Gerald passed away in December of 1997. Shirley ran a daycare for many years in Eastland. She enjoyed her job for she loved being with the children, and they loved her too. Even today they still remember and love her; the family has received so many sweet memories about her. Shirley had a big heart, and loved her family and friends. People always asked about her and would say to tell her “hello”. She loved everyone she met, and loved attending the First Christian Church, was a devoted Christian and enjoyed the Bible study classes. Shirley enjoyed traveling, and in 1976 she and her mother traveled to Europe to see her daughter. Earlier in life she was a member of a bowling team and league, she was a good bowler, and won several trophies. Her team would travel to different places to play in tournaments. They had great times and she loved to play games. Shirley was a true Eastland Maverick fan, she listened to them on the radio every time they played, and she watched the Dallas Cowboys; she really enjoyed that. Shirley is survived by her daughter, Deborah Ann Cox, of Eastland and son, Jerry Wayne Ables of Gatesville; grandsons, Timothy Wayne Cox and wife, Mary, of Saginaw, Texas and Jeremy Monroe Cox and wife, Tahita of Eastland; granddaughter, Tracie Jean Ables of Eastland; 5 great-grandchildren, Kyle Stone, Sydney Ferguson, Rylin Cox, Emily Carroll of Eastland, and Cameron Cox of Saginaw; brother, James Branton and wife, Molly of San Antonio; and several nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her husband, Gerald Ables, her parents, step-father, Grady Johnson, and her great-granddaughter, Karleigh Ann Cox.
