Joe Lois Shannon

November 27, 1925 - February 22, 2022

Joe Lois Shannon left this life for his Heavenly home on February 22, 2022. Local arrangements are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home. Joe’s wishes were to be cremated and the family will hold a burial at a later date. Joe was born November 27, 1925 to Robbie Clifford Shannon and Nettie Ione Crawford Shannon in Madisonville, Texas. He was the eldest of 13 children. At the age of 16 he left home to train and work as a machinist. When World II broke out, he entered the Navy. After his services he worked at various jobs to earn a living. During this time, he married Alma Nora Parker. Their life together took them many places including California where Joe worked for a contracting company that built Gemini 5 space shuttle for NASA. NASA used the name because it was Latin for “twins”. It would be the first space shuttle to carry two people. The family then moved to Alaska where Joe was an operating engineer for several years. Poor health led them back to California and eventually Texas. Alma preceded him in death in 2001. He later married Marry Nell Norton. They enjoyed a wonderful life until her passing in 2017. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, 5 sisters, and 3 brothers, and one step-daughter. He is survived by brothers John and Tom, sisters Linda ad Margaret, step-sons Randy, Brad, and Charlie, step-daughter Doris Ann, step-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. He was a member of Olden Baptist Church.
